At hospital again, with Lieutenant Jones. Route march in the afternoon, about 10 miles. Enjoyed it. Got back something after 6 o’clock. Went to Inwoods’ at night and played the piano. Didn’t leave until late.

A parade as usual. Took larger party of 50 men to Wharncliffe Hospital with an officer, Lieutenant Fitzgerald.

Slept in guard room. At church in the morning. Very busy arranging new hospital party. Wrote some letters and went to Inwoods’ to tea. At church at night, and stayed to sacrament. Stayed at Inwoods’ to supper.

At hospital as usual. The afternoon spent in picking out draft. Moil included; me left behind. At Inwoods’ again at night and at Miss Chapman’s private room to a nice supper. Bade Goodbye to Moil at night.
22 September 1915; Wednesday
At hospital as usual. Out with Moil at night. Came off Stable Guard at 6 o’clock. Went to Inwoods’ at night, but didn’t stay to supper. Bade a sort of farewell because we didn’t know who was going away tomorrow.
21 September 1915; Tuesday
At hospital again as usual. Went to Inwoods’ at night, but didn’t stay to supper. A rumour afloat about a party going to Salisbury Plain. On Stable Guard and slept in guard room. Wrote letter home.
20 September 1915; Monday
Left Charlie at York at at 2 oclock a.m. Changed at Normanby. Arrived Sheffield barracks about 5 o’clock. On duty at 6 o’clock. Very sleepy all day and scarcely managed to peg along. Went to bed soon at night.
17 September 1915; Friday
At hospital as usual. Had a bit trouble about the pass, but got it about 5 o’clock and got 5.38 train to Sunderland. Met Herring† and his sister in the station and came up with them. Spent a couple of hours in York and had supper there. Arrived Sunderland 12 midnight. Received 10/- wages.
