Parade in the morning as usual. Inoculated in the afternoon. Had walk at night. Called at Inwoods’1 and afterwards had supper at Soldiers’ Home. Arm painful at night.

10 August 1915; Tuesday
Got full drills and lectures in. Received letter from home saying Jack has gone to work at Scotia as a fitter or something. Wrote letter home at night. Put name in to be inoculated.
9 August 1915; Monday
Rain nearly all day. Didn’t get much drill. Had 5 lectures. Went to the chapel recreation room at night, and met the parson’s son who asked us up. Had supper with other two soldiers, and played a game. Received letter from home saying Charlie may enlist shortly.
8 August 1915; Sunday
Had church parade in the morning. Rain good part of the day. Went up to Mr Warhurst’s to tea. At chapel at night. Stayed to sacrament and went to Mr Inwood’s1 to supper. He set me to the barrack gates.

7 August 1915; Saturday
Rained most of the day. Washed out rooms first thing and the Major inspected them. He asked us questions as to whether we were †to be * * their† hand and all sorts†. Walked round a bit at night.

Had drill as usual. At the Soldiers’ Home at night. Received 5/-
5 August 1915; Thursday
Had drill as usual. Bathing parade in the morning, and it was fine. Didn’t go out until last thing, when I went to the Soldiers’ Home. Wrote to Ernie and home.
4 August 1915; Wednesday
Had drill as usual. No free day. Went to Mr Inmore’s1 at night. Played piano and some games. Miss Inmore sang. And I played for her. Spent a pleasant evening.

3 August 1915; Tuesday
Drills as usual. At it all day. Stayed in at night and read. Nearly fainted in the lecture room when the Major was speaking of the circulation.
2 August 1915; Monday
Up at 5.30. No parades after 9 o’clock inspection. Went to the ramble after dinner. We went to a farm house in the Worrall1 district. There two soldiers, 3 women†, Miss Inmore2 and some other people. Had rain at night, but we had a fine time. I walked home with Miss Inmore. Called in at a Mr Taylor’s during the rain and played and his daughters sang. With Hillsbro’ Wesleyan Church Guild Ramble.
